He was not a "Maoist"

[edit]

When did he ever state such a thing? 2601:647:CF81:8750:E5B3:BDA7:5369:3AB3 (talk) 13:33, 23 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Unsourced

" At the Killing Fields, more than 1.3 million people were executed and buried in mass graves. Pursuing complete egalitarianism, money, religion, and private property were abolished and all citizens were forced to wear the same black clothing"

"Personal life and characteristics"

[edit]

Reading that after the descriptions of the genocide is bizarre... it's one thing to mention insomnia, but a "distinctive smile"? What is this, his PR agency? It's not even certain if those couple of books said all of that (the entire section is practically a hagiography), as one would need access to the books to verify, but even if they did how is it of any encyclopedic relevance? 80.40.176.241 (talk) 23:17, 29 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You can take from it what you want, but suffice it to say many agree his smile is distinctive in the least hagiographic sense possible. Remsense ‥  23:41, 29 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Origin of name

[edit]

"Interested in Communism, he changed his name from Saloth Sâr to Pol Pot, which was short for "Political Potential"."

There are two problems with this claim:

1) It needs support and a citation, and is a matter of disagreement. It is not accepted by Philip Short's biography, which says that he took the name "Pol" from a Cambodian source, and took the name "Pot" some years later.

2) Even if the name "Pol Pot" came from the French phrase "Politique Potentielle," that would not mean "Political Potential," but rather "Potential Politics". In French, "politique" is the noun and "potentielle" is the adjective. 128.84.127.134 (talk) 15:49, 23 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I hate, hate, hate when I notice obvious vandalism like that that I've let slip through. Thanks for pointing it out. Remsense ‥  15:55, 23 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
